Volunteer Firefighters

Ellis County residents depend on volunteer firefighters to respond when emergencies arise.

The Ellis County Fire Department's firefighters protect life and property by performing 24-hour, on-call duties that include:

  • Firefighting;
  • Handling hazardous materials;
  • Preventing fires; and
  • Providing emergency aid.

Maintenance, Compensation & Training

Firefighters maintain fire equipment, apparatus, and facilities. They are paid-per-call at the end of each month. ISO standards mandate that every volunteer firefighter attend at least two hours of training every month.

Applicant Regulations

Firefighter applicants must:
     • Be 18 years of age or older
     • Be residents of Ellis County
     • Consent to a background check
     • Meet physical demands of the fire/rescue job performance
     • Possess a valid driver's license
