Mission, Training & Professional Memberships
Mission
It is the mission of the High Technology Crime Unit (HTCU) to:
  • Investigate technology-related crimes in Ellis County, Kansas including fraud, embezzlement, fraudulent documents, financial crimes, identity theft, and the various turpitudes in the use of technology, computers, and the internet
  • Provide the citizens of Ellis County with a cooperative enforcement unit to enforce state and local laws pertaining to crimes of, or relating to, high technology 
  • Inform and educate the citizens of Ellis County with preventative methods to help minimize the exposure of crimes relating to high technology 
  • Provide the forensic analysis of technology-related systems

Training
Several member officers of the HTCU have attended training and seminars directly related to combating technology and internet-related crimes, including basic and advanced data recovery and analysis courses taught by the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C).

Professional Memberships
The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office is the 15th agency member from the State of Kansas to join the NW3C, which includes other international and national law enforcement and prosecuting agencies.

The HTCU is a proud member of the Kansas chapter of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association.

The HTCU is a proud member of the Kansas Internet Crime Against Children Task Force.
