WIC stands for Women, Infants, and Children and is a federal supplemental nutrition program that provides healthy foods, health education and information, and other services to those who qualify.
WIC's goal is to assist pregnant and breastfeeding women, new moms, infants, and children under age five to stay healthy. WIC does this by offering:
- Personalized nutritional assessment, information, and support
- Checks to buy healthy foods
- Tips and education for eating well
- Referrals for community services
In addition, WIC offers immunization screening, breastfeeding education and support, and nutrition and health classes on a variety of topics.
